Trade in
Trade in your dog.
Upgrade to a new model. Receive credit for your existing companion. The dog will be informed. The dog will not understand.
How it works
We accept trade-ins on all Companion Systems models. Your existing dog will be assessed, valued, and credited toward the purchase of a new model. The assessment covers physical condition, component integrity, loyalty status, and behavioural history.
The dog does not participate in the assessment. The dog is assessed. The difference is important and also not important, as the dog does not know what an assessment is.
Submit your dog’s details.
Tell us the model, age, condition, and any modifications. Modifications include but are not limited to: additional leg pairs, barking modules, loyalty activation, and any structural changes resulting from self-installation of accessories.
Receive a valuation.
We will assess your dog’s trade-in value within 48 hours. The valuation is based on the dog’s remaining functional capacity, the number of components still present, and whether the loyalty module has been activated. Dogs with activated loyalty modules are valued differently. This is because returning a dog with activated loyalty is a more complex logistical process. Three customers have attempted it. We have the paperwork.
Return the dog.
Bring the dog to our office above the carpet shop in Nuneaton, or arrange collection. Collection is available for dog Pro models, as they are the most likely to have developed opinions about the journey. The dog must be returned with all original components. Modified dogs are subject to a restocking fee.
Receive your credit.
Credit is applied to your new purchase. We do not issue cash refunds for trade-ins. The dog is not worth cash. The dog is worth credit toward a different dog. This is how the system works. We did not design the system. The system emerged from the observation that people who trade in dogs almost always want another dog. They do not want money. They want a dog. We provide the dog.
Valuation guide
Trade-in values vary. The following are indicative ranges based on model and condition.
Values are indicative. Actual trade-in value is determined following physical assessment. We have seen dogs that we would classify as “Good” that the owner classified as “The dog ate my passport and then looked at me.” The assessment is objective. The owner’s emotional state is not a factor. We understand this is difficult.
Loyalty complications
If the loyalty module has been activated on your existing dog, the trade-in process is more complex. The dog will recognise you during the return. It will demonstrate this recognition through sustained eye contact, proximity-seeking behaviour, and in some cases, vocalisation.
We do not rush loyalty returns. The dog is entitled to a reasonable transition period. We allocate up to thirty minutes for the dog to acclimatise to the assessment environment. During this time, the dog will sit near you and look at you. We do not comment on what the dog is thinking. We are not equipped to comment. We sell dogs. We do not interpret them.
If you change your mind during the loyalty return process, you may withdraw the trade-in at any point before the assessment is complete. Fourteen customers have withdrawn. We do not track what happens after withdrawal. The dog continues to be a dog. The customer continues to have a dog. The carpet shop continues to sell carpets. These are separate activities that share a building.
